Now She Can Draw My Face!

Alway a pleasure to watch her grow.
And between those pleasures are suprises. A few days ago she suprised me that she rode her tricycle in 'crosser extreme style' as she lifted one of her legs in the air.
And yesterday's suprise is this: all in a sudden she said,
"Pih, this is your picture!"
"These are your eyes, your nose and your mouth. There is no hair.... coz you are bald... hihihi..." she continued.
Thanks God.

Watching my baby girl grows is amazing!
It seems that miracles happen everyday. Her physical, language, intelligent and countles intangible tallents show themselves sometime at the same time. Wow!

On September I measured her height and the result was 97 cm. On December it's already 99 cm. Two centimeters in less than two months. She is going to be 3 year old by January 2009.

A reaction I didn't think about

Last Thursday I met my students, Dimitri, in a store near the school where work. He's a kind of diligent student who willing to use English in everyday situation. He has enourmous motivation to improve his communicative ability.

That day, as usual, he greeted me, I greeted him back then we had little talk about each other needs. I told him that I was looking for a kind of medicine for my inflamation. My was feel normal, it was rather uncomfortable. To overcome this, I usualy buy a kind of Chinese tea to coolmy tongue. Then a couple of minutes later we finished our conversation and Dimitri went into the store while I was still at the deposit counter.

But, then the guy next to me who paid "good" attention to our conversation commented,"Who the .... is he?". "Why should he speak English here?" He facial expressed disgrace. I guess he's kind of boss who has been to English speaking country. The he asked me where Dimitri is from. Dimitri's face is rather western typically. Then I told this mustached late forties guy that it is our commitment to use English wherever and whenever we meet each other. It is part of our training program in improving English conversation skill.

"Oh... that's great! That's good!" he said. "I agree that it has to be used in our everyday life in order to better our English," he added. "Otherwise it will be worsening" I said.

It was truly a reaction I didn't think about before........

A couple of days ago

A couple of days ago I heard Vidi Aldiano, a new popular singer, that he wanted to have more than five companies as his business beside singing. He added that he was told by his father that no single thing can last forever including his singing career. It can end at any time. People can get bored or he himself can get bored. Or there will be new singer that is more suitable with the era as it is dynamicly changing.

My attention was focus on his dream to have more than one company. That's remind of my own dreams. Some years ago me and my wife have a nice conversation over this topic. We are dreaming about what kind of future life we are going to live in. The profession, .....

New Semester, New Spirit.

New Semester, New Spirit.

Thanks God. It's new semester again. I'm glad to do it all again. I'm happy to see students, happy to prepare everythings. I'm happy that my I can be what I can be.

This is the first week of the semester and as usual the schedule is not yet fixed, the teaching materials still need to be discussed with partners, finding updated teaching resources, and this is a quite big problem as it not easy to find books that suitably fit the needs of my students in accordance to their curriculum, and so on.

God, as I always ask for useful knowledge, I believe this is one way to sharpen my saw, to widen my knowledge, to get more skills and to be beneficial to the community. Amin.

I found Pak Suhendra in Blogger

It was a nice surprise. Indeed it is nice to see my teacher (even) only through a blog, Pak Suhendra Yusuf, a linguist, a translator, a consultant, a warm teacher.

It was this morning while I was googling for my campus address and phone number I found two blogs written by him. The first one was "translating and interpreting 1" an article, actually it is a book, consist of 95 pages discussing theories of translation accompanied by aple practive to check students' progress. The other was a reseach report that had presented in Ministry of National Education, "Tingkat Literacy Mahasiswa".

The nicest thing to me is that again I have an opportunity to improve my self by learning from Pak Suhendra, even only through his blogs. I am now in a process of building my career as an English teacher and it is my believe that a good teacher is proved the by ability write a course book and to get it to publish so that wider range of people can get benefit from it.

I learned something, some important things today.
And it is from you, Pak Suhendra.
It is from your blog.

Let's leisure......

It's been a while now!
I long to see the sun set in a windy warm afternoon in Pangandaran beach.
The sound of waves is fading as feeling of released, free, done,..... come approaching.
I'm through today. I'm resting. See you tomorrow.
By, now.
That's what you say, Sun.

My new sketches : Mr. TAG

I tried to make sketches of my posture. Eventually I must admit that it is not easy to do so. What I mean to say taht it is hard to find certain 'form' or 'posture' that will easily rocognized as me. There are some choices I have to make in line with style; will it be a cartoon like 'short figure' or 'normal figure'.

In today's posting I placed the short figure one with casual wears; short pants, jogger t-shirt, and sandal. It was a apparel that I wear when I found the idea of making myself figure. The black short 'beach' pants decorated with grey round flowers around. While the white t-shirt is a product of Jogger Bali decorated with square picture and writing. The color is white and the picture green in the base color. The beach sandal color is pale grey.

In the future I want to place these images in any printed paper works or presentations. Ok then, that's all for today.

Cheers.

Then I try to draw and draw, while I should tell a story

I started to draw and placed them on my blog because I want to tell story to my little daughter, Nalyka. I want to tell her stories that closes to her day to day activities; playing with her toys, interacting with her peers, how she behave to the elder, etc. By having our own book I [might] be able to let her create her own story someday. But it takes me sometime to draw one. Not to mention that I have to make a story book. I'm sure I'll have it done soon.... very soon Nay.

The model of this character is Nay herself. Now I'm working on a story to start with...

I'm starting a new Blog

Hei.... Nice to write again,

Today I going to start my new blog. It's about my new passion; making comic or illustration. I like drawing since I was a kid. As long as a could remember I always get good score on drawing. Hehe...

Until a few years ago I still do some drawings. The last thing I did was a sketch of Siliwangi Bridge with the Galery Ciumbuleuit as it background. I used pencil for sketching and pastel for finishing my work. Now it hangs on my bedroom wall in GBR.

But these days I've been a little bit busy. Chasing scholarships, preparing lesson plans, and my new daily routine has distract me from drawing. Now it seems that I'd been enlightened and curious to try new media using adobe illustrator or adobe photoshop to do drawing.

So check out my new blog!

Cheer!

Be Careful with what you're saying

Hi...

This morning I had a little chit-chat with Pak Darwis, a friend whose teaching Bahasa Indonesia. It was a loosely conversation about this and that. But one interesting topic was about being careful about what what we are saying by the reason that that something say will realize or become real in your future coarse of life.

There are many examples we were mentioned from our life experience. From me;

when I was still a Junior High students I said to my some of my friends this words [more or less] “If were a teacher of English…, this is how I am going to teach this lesson…”. And here I am, now I am an English teacher.

when we were just finished Senior High in 1990, a friend asked me why didn’t I take the university student selection process. I answer this question firmly that I would not take the test because even if I pass the test I don’t have enough money to support my study in university. And I also tell him that I am going to pursue my study as soon as I start working and earn my life alone. And that what had happened. I got the job and then start doing these two things together working and studying.

If I dig deeper, I am sure I will find lots of examples from my life.

But got to go now. I’ll be back soon

You can't do that!

This evening I'm feeling a little bit guilty. It has to do with what I did this morning. I came to the office this morning with intention to help my friend, Dedi, to check the preparation of training for a company officers that would be started by Monday morning. But, instead of helping him, I get stuck with my computer translating the brochure's text. And I did not realize that I had been doing that for more than three hours already. And I only knew that when I saw this friend of mine brought a lunch box to Pak Djoni's office. Wow! it's lunch time already.

Speaking frankly, at that time when I saw Dedi I was helping Pak Djoni finding some papers of presidential and ministerial verdicts about the establishment and organization of STP Bandung. For your info Pak Djoni is one of three director candidates that suppose to give presentation about his vision as well as his views about the main tasks and functions of STP Bandung director before the panel of Baperjakat, a body that will provide views and assessment in the selection of candidates to the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

For me that's a good excuse. I can take this as the reason for not being present to give help. And I think it worked, since the next ten minutes I found a lunch box on my table. I'm sure it was Pak Djoni who cover me and say that I was helping him at the second floor so that I did not present at Litabmas office. And it is also possible that Pak Djoni had told somebody there at Litabmas that I deserved a lunch box too. Hik...hik.

This evening I remember the song that I played while I was working with my computer translating the brochure's text early this morning, "You can't do that", sung by the Beatles.
It is not good to be that. To be what I did this morning. I'd better make it up, soon.
You can't do that!

But it's Monday

It was 7.30 am when the fog came down and covered my neighbourhood.
It whited my sights. Everywhere I take a look further than 5 meters it became blur with white.
There I saw a shadow of a mom holding an umbrella walking with her son.
It's so cool. It's so wet. And it's Monday.

"I've got to go for work!". Sigh!
In fact I've got to be there earlier as there will be a senate meeting about students' final examination results. Not to mention that memos and invitation are to be copied and distributed to the senate's members for their next meeting on February 4th, 2009. But it's Monday.

Today I will have my two applications form checked and hopefully compeleted; one is application for postgraduate programme at UPI, and the next is AMINEF scholarship application.
Thank's God. It's Monday!

But it's Monday!

It was 7.30 am when the fog came down and covered my neighbourhood this morning. It's so cold. It's so wet. And it's Monday. "I've got to go for work". Sigh!

It takes only half an hour to get to my workplace from home. But it's Monday.

There are many items to check today; application for postgraduate program at UPI, application for Aminef Scholarship, the papers to be included,.... that seeking agenda for today.

Not to mention that I should be at the office earlier as there will a senate meeting on students' final examination results, a memo to be copied and distributed for the next senate meeting on January 4th where the candidates of director of STP Bandung will present their visions.
