Now She Can Draw My Face!

Alway a pleasure to watch her grow.
And between those pleasures are suprises. A few days ago she suprised me that she rode her tricycle in 'crosser extreme style' as she lifted one of her legs in the air.
And yesterday's suprise is this: all in a sudden she said,
"Pih, this is your picture!"
"These are your eyes, your nose and your mouth. There is no hair.... coz you are bald... hihihi..." she continued.
Thanks God.

Watching my baby girl grows is amazing!
It seems that miracles happen everyday. Her physical, language, intelligent and countles intangible tallents show themselves sometime at the same time. Wow!

On September I measured her height and the result was 97 cm. On December it's already 99 cm. Two centimeters in less than two months. She is going to be 3 year old by January 2009.

A reaction I didn't think about

Last Thursday I met my students, Dimitri, in a store near the school where work. He's a kind of diligent student who willing to use English in everyday situation. He has enourmous motivation to improve his communicative ability.

That day, as usual, he greeted me, I greeted him back then we had little talk about each other needs. I told him that I was looking for a kind of medicine for my inflamation. My was feel normal, it was rather uncomfortable. To overcome this, I usualy buy a kind of Chinese tea to coolmy tongue. Then a couple of minutes later we finished our conversation and Dimitri went into the store while I was still at the deposit counter.

But, then the guy next to me who paid "good" attention to our conversation commented,"Who the .... is he?". "Why should he speak English here?" He facial expressed disgrace. I guess he's kind of boss who has been to English speaking country. The he asked me where Dimitri is from. Dimitri's face is rather western typically. Then I told this mustached late forties guy that it is our commitment to use English wherever and whenever we meet each other. It is part of our training program in improving English conversation skill.

"Oh... that's great! That's good!" he said. "I agree that it has to be used in our everyday life in order to better our English," he added. "Otherwise it will be worsening" I said.

It was truly a reaction I didn't think about before........

A couple of days ago

A couple of days ago I heard Vidi Aldiano, a new popular singer, that he wanted to have more than five companies as his business beside singing. He added that he was told by his father that no single thing can last forever including his singing career. It can end at any time. People can get bored or he himself can get bored. Or there will be new singer that is more suitable with the era as it is dynamicly changing.

My attention was focus on his dream to have more than one company. That's remind of my own dreams. Some years ago me and my wife have a nice conversation over this topic. We are dreaming about what kind of future life we are going to live in. The profession, .....

New Semester, New Spirit.

New Semester, New Spirit.

Thanks God. It's new semester again. I'm glad to do it all again. I'm happy to see students, happy to prepare everythings. I'm happy that my I can be what I can be.

This is the first week of the semester and as usual the schedule is not yet fixed, the teaching materials still need to be discussed with partners, finding updated teaching resources, and this is a quite big problem as it not easy to find books that suitably fit the needs of my students in accordance to their curriculum, and so on.

God, as I always ask for useful knowledge, I believe this is one way to sharpen my saw, to widen my knowledge, to get more skills and to be beneficial to the community. Amin.

I found Pak Suhendra in Blogger

It was a nice surprise. Indeed it is nice to see my teacher (even) only through a blog, Pak Suhendra Yusuf, a linguist, a translator, a consultant, a warm teacher.

It was this morning while I was googling for my campus address and phone number I found two blogs written by him. The first one was "translating and interpreting 1" an article, actually it is a book, consist of 95 pages discussing theories of translation accompanied by aple practive to check students' progress. The other was a reseach report that had presented in Ministry of National Education, "Tingkat Literacy Mahasiswa".

The nicest thing to me is that again I have an opportunity to improve my self by learning from Pak Suhendra, even only through his blogs. I am now in a process of building my career as an English teacher and it is my believe that a good teacher is proved the by ability write a course book and to get it to publish so that wider range of people can get benefit from it.

I learned something, some important things today.
And it is from you, Pak Suhendra.
It is from your blog.
